Grilled Cheese & Fried Green Tomato Sandwich |

Straight out of the south and into your tummies! Ingredients:
1 slice cheese (your choice) |
1 medium green tomato |
2 slices bread (your choice) |
1/2 cup cornmeal |
salt (to taste) |
pepper (to taste) |
1 tablespoon butter, soften |
oil |
Directions:
1. Slice tomato so that you have three nice slices. Dip in cornmeal.(add s&p, if using, to the cornmeal before dipping). 2. Heat a non-stick skillet with just enough oil to fry tomatoes. Fry until brown on both sides. Remove and set aside. 3. Wipe skillet clean and return to heat. 4. Butter one side of each piece of bread. 5. Place one slice, buttered side down in skillet and immediately top with cheese and fried tomato slices. 6. Top with second piece of bread, buttered side up. Press down with spatula. Turn when underside is golden brown. 7. Cook on second side until golden brown and cheese has melted. 8. I like using Munster cheese and seven-grain bread. |
