This recipe has been a family favorite. I am putting it here in case my house ever burns down. Ingredients:
4 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch |
6 cups whole milk |
1 1/2-2 cups sugar |
8 -10 eggs |
1 teaspoon salt |
2 (15 ounce) cans sweetened condensed milk |
1/2 pint heavy cream |
8 ounces imitation vanilla (real wont freeze well due to alcohol) |
Directions:
1. Mix cornstarch with 1/2 c of milk. 2. heat in saucepan until smooth & thick with wire whisk. 3. in another bowl mix sugar, eggs, salt, abd condensed milk. 4. Add some of the sugar egg mixture to the cornstarch to temper. lumps are too easy at this stage. 5. add cornstarch mixture to rest of egg sugar mixture with a wire whisk. 6. add vanilla and cream and top off with whole milk until your freezer is full. 7. best if mix is made a few hours ahead of freezing to ripen . |
