Great-Grandma Ann's Danish Criss Cross Cookies

Light and airy cookies.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup crisco
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
1 egg
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
Directions:
1. Cream together butter and Crisco.
2. Add sugar and cream together.
3. Add slightly beaten egg and vanilla.
4. Mix dry ingredients then sift in a little at a time to the butter mixture.
5. Roll into small balls then flatten with a moistened fork.
6. Bake in a moderate oven (325) until slightly browned on a greased cookie sheet.
