A deliciously different fruit pie. I like to use a combination of red and green grapes. Pie could be topped with a lattice crust instead of the leaf cut-outs. Ingredients:
5 cups large red seedless grapes or 5 cups green grapes, halved |
1/3 cup packed brown sugar |
1/4 cup all-purpose flour |
1 tablespoon grape juice |
1 double crust, for 9 inch pie |
1 large egg white |
1 tablespoon water |
coarse sugar |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400°F. 2. For filling, stir together grapes, brown sugar, flour, and grape juice; set aside. 3. Line 9-inch pie plate with crust and crimp edges. 4. Transfer filling into unbaked crust. 5. Cover edge with foil; bake 25 minutes. 6. Remove foil; bake 25-30 minutes more, or until filling is bubbly. 7. Meanwhile, use a leaf cookie cutter to cut four leaves from the remaining pastry. 8. Combine egg white and water. 9. Brush leaf cut-outs with egg white mixture. 10. Sprinkle with coarse sugar. 11. Place cut-out on a cookie sheet and bake 7-8 minutes or until golden brown. 12. Arrange leaf cut-outs on pie. |
