Years ago I used to make granola a lot, using it to munch on & as a topping for hot cereal. I sometimes substitute chopped dates for the raisins. Ingredients:
5 cups rolled oats |
1 cup bran flakes |
1 1/2 cups sesame seeds, unhulled |
1 1/2 cups wheat germ |
1 cup soya flour |
1/2 cup dark brown sugar |
1 cup dry milk, non-instant |
1/2 cup shredded coconut |
1 cup raw cashew nuts |
1 cup slivered almonds, blanched |
1 cup sunflower seeds |
1 cup vegetable oil |
1 cup honey |
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract |
2 cups dark raisins |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees F. 2. In a large bowl, mix together the first 11 ingredients [the dry ones]. 3. In a small bowl, mix the oil, honey & vanilla, & add to the dry mix, folding it in with a wooden spoon. 4. Spread this mixture onto the bottom of a large roasting pan, & bake it, stirring occasionally, for 1 1/4 hours, or until light brown. 5. Cool the baked granola, stirring it several times, & when cooled, add the raisins. 6. Place in tight, glass containers. |
