Granny's Chicken Casserole |

I was given this recipe by my Granny. It is requested often whenever any of the family stops by for a visit! It is also easily adjusted according to your family's preferences, and can be changed based on what's available in your pantry. Ingredients:
2 tablespoons butter |
1/2 cup celery, chopped |
1/2 cup onion, diced |
1/2 cup bell pepper, diced |
4 -5 cups chopped cooked chicken |
6 slices white bread, cubed (we prefer wheat bread) |
1 cup milk |
1/2 cup mayonnaise |
10 1/2 ounces cream of mushroom soup (i use specialty soup substitutes - cream) |
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese |
salt, to taste |
pepper, to taste |
Directions:
1. Melt butter in a large skillet. Add celery, onion, and bell pepper; saute' until softened. 2. Combine with remaining ingredients, mixing well. Add salt and pepper, to taste. 3. Dump into 13x9 dish. Top with additional cheese, if desired. 4. Bake at 350* for 35-45 minutes. |
