My grandmother made this and kept it in the frig all the time. She was German, so she was big on cabbage. It's great to eat on pintos or use like a relish too. Oh yea, it's awesome on it's own or on a barbecue sandwich Ingredients:
1 cup vinegar (white or amber) |
1 cup sugar |
1 head cabbage grated |
1 medium onion minced |
1 tsp. celery seed |
1 tsp. mustard seed |
Directions:
1. Heat vinegar and sugar on low till sugar dissolves. Stir frequently. When sugar has dissolved, take off heat and let cool to room temp. 2. Pour over grated cabbage and onion 3. Stir in celery and mustard seeds 4. Put in refrigerator. This actually taste better when it sits in refrig for a while. It will keep almost indefinately......It's like a woman, it's versitile, improves with age and gets spicier the longer it waits. |
