These soft white dinner rolls are always a hit whenever I make them! I remember my grandma teaching me how to shape them; she always made them for every family gathering. Now I'm teaching my kids how to make them! Ingredients:
2 cups warm water |
2 (4 1/2 teaspoon) packages dry yeast |
1/2 cup sugar |
2 teaspoons salt |
1/4 cup vegetable oil |
1 egg, beaten |
6 1/2-7 cups flour, divided |
2 tablespoons oil (optional) |
Directions:
1. Put the warm water into a large mixing bowl. 2. Add the yeast and stir to dissolve. 3. Add the sugar, salt, oil, and egg, and mix well. 4. Add 4 cups of flour and stir until smooth. 5. Add enough of the remaining flour until the mixture is neither sticky nor dry. 6. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise until doubled in size. 7. Generously grease a 9x13 pan or two 9x9 pans (you may need another pan as well, depending on the size of your rolls). 8. Shape balls of dough into rolls somewhere between a golf ball and a tennis ball in size. It helps to have a small bowl of oil handy and continually grease your hands. 9. Place the dough balls into the greased pan, not quite touching. 10. Cover the pans and let the rolls rise until quite soft. 11. Bake at 375 for 15 to 20 minutes, until golden brown. |
