This recipe is from my Grandma, the woman who raised me. Grandma was by no means a fancy cook. She was a young bride during the depression, so she had a lot of practical, thrifty recipes. I was lucky enough to inherit her recipe box, and this was in it, written on a scrap piece of paper. Read more ...she didn't make these often, but mmmmm when she did! Ingredients:
cook and set aside |
3 lb potatoes, cooked and drained |
in a deep skillet: cook 6 slices bacon until crisp. drain, leaving enough bacon drippings to saute onions. remove from skillet and set aside. |
3/4 c chopped onion. sauteed in bacon drippings until done. |
stir in |
2 tbsp sugar |
2 tbsp salt |
2 tbsp flour |
1/2 tsp celery seed |
1 dash(es) fresh ground pepper |
3/4 c water |
1/3 c vinegar |
cook over low heat until bubbling. remove from heat stir in |
crumble bacon and slice potatoes. add to hot mixture, stirring carefully. |
cook for 1 minute, heating thoroughly. |
Directions:
