A recipe from 1945 that carries on the tradition of warm memories. Great to enjoy on Christmas morning. Ingredients:
2 cups flour |
1 cup sugar |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
2 teaspoons baking powder |
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
4 tablespoons shortening |
1 large egg, lightly beaten |
milk |
1 teaspoon vanilla extract |
butter |
Directions:
1. Combine flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon and baking powder. 2. Cut in shortening, reserve 1/2 cup; set aside. 3. Place beaten egg in a measuring cup and add enough milk to equal one cup. 4. Add vanilla and combine with flour mixture, mix well. 5. Pour into a greased 8 x 8 pan. 6. Sprinkle with reserved dry mixture. 7. Dot with butter, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. 8. Bake 25 minutes at 375°. |
