Grandmas Coleslaw

My very German grandma made this simple coleslaw for family picnics and Friday fish fry.
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1 cup white vinegar
1 teaspoon dried dill, celery seeds, or caraway seeds
1 head cabbage, shredded
optional
shredded carrot
shredded radishes
shredded onions
Directions:
1. Put sugar and vinegar in small saucepan.
2. Bring to boil, stirring constantly.
3. Boil 1 minute.
4. Remove from heat.
5. Stir in chosen herb.
6. Refrigerate until cool.
7. Combine with cabbage (and optional ingredients, if desired). This gets better when allowed to rest several hours, but it's ready to eat after an hour.
