Grandmas Buttercream Frosting |

This is my Grandma's recipe for buttercream frosting. It is the frosting I use on all of my decorated cakes, because it pipes well and tastes great! Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter |
1/2 cup shortening |
6 cups powdered sugar |
1/4 cup water |
4 tsp. meringue powder (you can use two egg whites instead of the water and meringue powder if you wish!) |
1/2 tsp. salt |
1/2 tsp. cream of tarter |
2 tsp. vanilla |
1/4 cup milk |
Directions:
1. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the butter and shortening until light and fluffy. 2. Gradually beat in powdered sugar. 3. In a small bowl, stir together meringue powder and water. 4. Beat into frosting. 5. Add remaining ingredients; beat until light and fluffy. 6. If frosting is too thick, add more milk until desired consistency is achieved. |
