Ingredients:
3 1/2 cups self-rising flour |
1 tablespoon plus 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder |
1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon shortening |
1 1/2 cups plus 2 tablespoons buttermilk |
Directions:
1. Combine flour and baking powder in a large mixing bowl, stirring well. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Gradually add buttermilk, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened. 2. Turn dough out onto a floured surface, and knead 4 to 5 times. 3. Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness; cut with a 2 3/4-inch biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 425° for 12 minutes or until biscuits are lightly browned. |
