Grandma Texas' Crescent Rolls |

Ingredients:
5 cup(s) all purpose flour |
2 tablespoon(s) butter or margarine |
1/2 cup(s) crisco or other vegetable shortening |
1 1/2 teaspoon(s) dry active yeast |
1 tablespoon(s) salt |
1/2 cup(s) sugar |
2 cup(s) warm water |
Directions:
1. Add sugar to warm water until completely dissolved. Sprinkle sugar water with dry active yeast. Let stand in a draftfree area (inside the microwave oven) for 45 minutes. 2. In a large bowl, mix salt with flour. With pastry cutter, cut Crisco shortning into flour. Mix water mixture with flour. Cover bowl with a towel and place in turned off oven with the light on to rise for 2 hrs. 3. Take 1/4 of the dough mixture and turn out onto a floured surface. Sprinkle with flour and roll out into a circle until 1/4 inch thick. liberally spread with butter. 4. Slice dough circle into 8 equal "pie slices". Beginning at the wide end of each slice, roll each slice up into crescent shape. 5. Place rolls on greased cookie sheet and allow them to rise in warm place for 30 minutes or until they rise again. 6. Bake at 425 degrees for 2025 minutes. |
