I got this recipe from my husband's grandmother. Simple yet very tasty!
Ingredients:
1 lb ground turkey or 1 lb ground beef
1 (1 1/4 ounce) package chili seasoning mix (mild or hot)
3 (16 ounce) cans kidney beans, drained (light or dark)
2 (15 ounce) cans hormel turkey chili with beans
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can whole tomatoes
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
salt and pepper
water
Directions:
1. In a large pot, add beans, turkey chili, and using the cans, add 4 cans of water. Season with salt and pepper. Heat on medium/medium-high.
2. In a blender or processor, give a few pulses to the tomatoes until thick, leaving only a few chunks left.
3. In a large skillet, brown ground turkey, seasoning with garlic, onion and salt and pepper, until no longer pink. Drain. Return to skillet.
4. Add tomato puree and chili seasonin and bring to a boil. Then let simmer for about 20-30 minutes, letting the flavors absorb.
5. Add meat mixture to the beans, cover and simmer for atleast 30 minutes. Better to let simmer for 2-3 hours.
6. NOTE.
7. For more flavor, saute chopped onion with the meat while it's cooking. I don't cause of my husbands taste.
