Old family recipe for a wonderful pie made by our grandmother since the early 1930's. Recipe contributor: Grandma Nancy and shared by my sister Barbara. Ingredients:
1 - 10 pie crust; uncooked |
3 tbsp butter; softened |
1/3 cup dark brown sugar |
1/3 cup pecans; chopped |
1 cup evaporated milk (we use carnation brand) |
1/2 cup water |
3 eggs |
1-1/2 cups canned or fresh cooked pumpkin |
1/2 cup white sugar |
1/2 cup brown sugar |
1 tsp cinnamon |
1/4 tsp ground cloves |
1/4 tsp nutmeg |
1 tsp salt |
1/2 pint whipping cream; whipped & refrigerated |
Directions:
1. Cream butter with 1/3 cup dark brown sugar, stir in pecans and press over prepared pie crust. This forms the praline layer. 2. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 min; cool. 3. Scald evaporated milk with water in small pan. 4. Beat eggs in large bowl; stir in pumpkin, remaining sugars, spices and salt. 5. Beat in scalded mixture and pour over praline layer. 6. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes until set but soft. 7. Cool and top with whipped cream. |
