Grandma Martin gave me this recipe and I will cherrish it forever! Annette told her that I was coming to get the recipe from her, and she took the time to write it out. But when I got there she couldn't remember where she put it. Read more . But she was able to recite it by memory! Ingredients:
beets |
water |
vinegar |
salt |
pepper |
cinnamon |
sugar |
Directions:
1. Wash the beets 2. Cook them until they are fork-tender 3. Wait until they are cool enough to touch and slip off the skin 4. Slice beets 5. Put them in a clean pot 6. Cover them with 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water 7. Add 1 to 2 tsp sugar 8. Add salt (as much as you would add to that amount of potatoes) 9. Add pepper and cinnamon 10. Bring to a boil 11. To keep them - put them in a jar while everything is hot |
