Grandma Landers's Chicken 'n' Rice

Ingredients:
1 cup white rice
1 onion, diced
1 whole chicken, cut into 8 pieces
salt and pepper, to taste
1 (10 3/4 ounce) can cream of chicken soup
1 (10 3/4 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
2 1/2 cups chicken broth
1 teaspoon fresh garlic, chopped
1 (1 ounce) package dry onion soup mix
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Pour uncooked rice on the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan. Top with onions.
3. Season chicken with salt and pepper and lay over the rice.
4. Combine soups, broth, and garlic. Pour over chicken and bake for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, until chicken is tender and rice is cooked.
