Grandma Deharts Fried Green Tomatoes |

This was my grandmother's recipe. I have not made this one myself but my oldest sister makes it and loves these tomatoes. Ingredients:
4 green tomatoes about 3 in diameter |
3 eggs |
1/2 cup milk |
1/3 cup all purpose flour |
1/3 cup dry bread crumbs |
3 cups grated parmesan cheese |
1 tsp finely chopped fresh basil or 1/3 tsp dried basil |
1/2 cup olive oil (use high quality oil) |
2 8oz cans tomato sauce |
Directions:
1. Wash and slice green tomatoes into quarter inch slices. 2. Beat eggs and add enough milk to make one cup. 3. Mix flour, bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, and basil. 4. Place egg wash mix in bowl and breading in a large plate. 5. Preheat skillet over medium heat. 6. Completely submerge slices of tomatoes in egg and milk wash, then cover them with breading mix. 7. Add oil to skillet as needed to fry. 8. Fry over medium heat until lightly golden brown on each side. 9. Serve hot! |
