This is my grandmother's recipe for Brown Bread. It is good and goes great on a Saturday night with Baked Beans. It is very easy as long as you are going to be around for three hours in order to steam it. Ingredients:
1 cup white flour |
1 cup cornmeal |
1 cup whole wheat flour |
2 teaspoons baking soda |
1 teaspoon salt |
3/4 cup molasses |
2 cups sour milk |
1 cup raisins |
Directions:
1. In a large bowl mix the first five ingredients. 2. Then stir in the rest. 3. Divide between two 1-pound greased coffee cans. 4. Cover top of can with foil or wax paper and steam for 3 hours. 5. Serve warm with butter. |
