Is it a dessert? Or is it a cocktail…? That is the great thing about this recipe—it can be both! This is a creative twist on two classic favorites. Notice that I am using an already made margarita mix rather than making my own; I usually make this for entertaining, so buying the mix is much more practical (and saves you from juicing a million limes!) Just make sure you buy a good one. If you prefer to make your own, that is fine. Just don’t add too much alcohol or it won’t freeze. Ingredients:
2/3 cup golden tequila |
2/3 cup orange juice |
1 1/3 cups margarita mix |
1/4 cup grand marnier |
margarita salt (or kosher salt) |
lime rind |
orange rind |
Directions:
1. In a shallow, rectangular pan, combine the tequila, margarita mix, orange juice and Grand Marnier. Place in the freezer. After about 1 1/2 hours, scrape the top with a fork to form “snow”, slowly working your way to the bottom of the pan. Return to the freezer. Wait another 1 1/2 hours, and repeat this step. Repeat the scraping occasionally until it is ready to serve. 2. To serve: rub the rim of a chilled martini glass with lime juice and dip rim in salt, scoop in the granita, and garnish with lime and orange twist. Serve immediately. |
