This recipe is the ultimate comfort food and feels like home to me. The crunchy almond topping over the warm cinnamony apple filling is wonderful served with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.Tammy Rex, New Tripoli, Pennsylvania Ingredients:
11 cups thinly sliced peeled golden delicious apples (about 12 medium) |
1 cup sugar |
1/2 cup dried cranberries |
1/2 cup packed brown sugar |
1/3 cup king arthur unbleached all-purpose flour |
2 tablespoons lemon juice |
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg |
almond oat topping: |
1 cup king arthur unbleached all-purpose flour |
1/2 cup old-fashioned oats |
1/2 cup sugar |
1/2 cup packed brown sugar |
2/3 cup cold butter |
1/2 cup sliced almonds |
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, combine the first nine ingredients. Pour into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking dish. 2. In a small bowl, combine the flour, oats and sugars. Cut in butter until crumbly; stir in almonds. Sprinkle over fruit mixture. 3. Bake, uncovered, at 375° for 40-50 minutes or until topping is golden brown and filling is bubbly. Yield: 12 servings. |
