It tastes more like the traditional Gujarati dal but I like it and find it different from the usual dals. Ingredients:
1 cup toor dal (cooked and mashed to form a paste) |
coconut milk (as much as required) |
1 tablespoon jaggery |
curry leaf |
1 pinch asafetida powder |
oil |
garam masala |
cumin seed |
2 tablespoons tamarind pulp, soaked in water |
Directions:
1. Heat the dal in a pan. 2. Add the coconut milk and boil. 3. Next add the jaggery and tamarind water. 4. Then add garam masala and salt. 5. Heat oil in a separate pan. 6. Add cumin seeds, curry leaves and asafoetida. 7. Fry till cumin seeds begin to splutter. 8. Pour this mixture into the boiling dal. 9. Cover and cook on low heat. 10. Garnish with chopped cilantro. 11. Serve hot with rice. |
