This is my family's favorite frosting for Grandma's Spicy Applesauce Cake. It's not too sweet, with lots of chocolate. The recipe comes from an old (1967) Betty Crocker cookbook. Ingredients:
3 tablespoons shortening |
3 ounces unsweetened chocolate |
2 cups sifted powdered sugar |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1/3 cup milk |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
Directions:
1. Melt shortening and chocolate together.
2. Beat in the remaining ingredients.
3. Place bowl in larger bowl containing ice water and continue stirring until icing is thick enough to spread.
