One I have been making for 30 years ... need to post for safe keeping! Had to call Mom for the recipe as the book I needed is packed away in a box that is hidden under covers while dust flies due to a geo thermal project! Ingredients:
1 1/4 cups shortening |
1/4 cup water |
2 cups sugar |
1 cup molasses |
1 tablespoon vinegar |
2 eggs |
4 teaspoons baking soda |
2 teaspoons baking powder |
5 -5 1/2 cups flour |
1 teaspoon clove |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
1 teaspoon nutmeg |
1 teaspoon allspice |
1 teaspoon ginger |
Directions:
1. Mix first six ingredients. 2. Add dry ingredients. 3. Let chill for 1 hour. 4. Take 1 TBSP dough (I like to make them BIG!) , roll into a ball and roll in granulated sugar. 5. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Remember all stove temps are different. |
