Ginger Maple Cutout Cookies |

I found this in our local Kalamazoo Women's Life Style magazine. They looked wonderful! I only bake three different kinds of cookies each year, (The kids have the attention span of a goldfish!) so, I'm making, My gingerbread children, sortbread and these! Read more !!! Serving size is aproximate dozens. Ingredients:
2/3 cup vegtable shortening |
1/3 cup butter softened |
1 cup maple syrup at room temperature |
1 tbs molasses |
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract |
4 cups whole-wheat flour |
2 tsp baking soda |
1/2 tsp salt |
1/2 tsp ginger |
1/4 tsp ground clove |
1/4 tsp nutmeg |
Directions:
1. Cream together shortening and butter in a large bowl. Gradually beat in maple syrup, molasses and vanilla. Mix flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cloves and nutmeg and work them into creamed mixture about 1 cup at a time. 2. Using floured hands, divide dough in half and wrap each half in plastic; flatten each into a disk. Chill at least 2 hours. 3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and lightly grease baking sheet or line with ungreased parchment paper. Roll dough out, one half at a time, onto sheet of waxed paper, to a little less than 1/4 inch thick. Cut inot desired shapes, transfe to baking sheet and bake 8 to 10 minutes, until bottoms are golden. 4. Cool briefly on sheet, transfer to wire rack to finish cooling. 5. Decorate as desired. |
