This recipe is from the Philathea Cookbook from Elim Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota published in 1945. It was submitted by Mrs. Amanda Johnson. Ingredients:
1 cup sugar |
3/4 cup shortening |
1 egg, beaten |
2 cups flour |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
4 tablespoons molasses |
1 teaspoon ginger |
2 teaspoons baking soda |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
Directions:
1. Cream shortening, add sugar gradually, add beaten eggs, and molasses. 2. Mix and sift the flour, cinnamon, ginger and soda and add salt. 3. Roll in small balls. 4. Roll in additional granulated sugar. 5. Place 1 1/2 inches apart on a buttered cookie sheet and bake 12 minutes at 375 degrees. |
