Back a couple hundred years ago, one had to have a licence to make ginger bread. I don't think grandma had one (of course, she was never THAT old!), but her ginger bread was my favorite. Ingredients:
1/2 cup sugar |
1/2 cup butter |
1 cup molasses |
1 tsp clove |
1 tsp cinnamon |
1 tsp ginger |
2 tsp soda in 1 cup boiling water |
2 1/2 cup flour |
2 eggs |
Directions:
1. Stir butter to soften, gradually add sugar, creaming til light and fluffy. Addd egg and molasses; beat throughly. 2. Sift together dry ingredients. 3. Add to molasses mixture alternately with boiling water, beating after each addition. 4. Bake in well greased 8x8x2-inch pan in moderate oven (350) about 35 to 40 minutes or til done. Serve warm. |
