This is by far the best chai recipe i have come accross and a staple at my home. Ginger has a warm and soothing effect especially when am down with a cold and the Cardomom infuses fragrance and the wow factor in the tea,
Ingredients:
water - 1 cup
milk - 1 cup (i use low fat)
ginger - about a tsp grated (depends how strong you like it)
tea leaves- 2tsp (i use the brand called red label tea. should be available in indian grocery stores)
sugar- 2tsp (or to taste) i use raw sugar
green cardamom- 5-6 (again depends how strong you like it)
Directions:
1. Heat the water in a pan (on medium-high flame).
2. Grate the ginger into it.
3. Bring it to a boil.
4. Once it starts boiling ,add the milk .
5. Once the milk starts boiling ,add the Tea Leaves
6. Crush the cardamom , i use a mortar and pestle to do that..
7. Once it comes to a roaring boil. Add the crushed cardamom and mix.
8. The sugar can be added at this point or it can be added straight into individual cups while serving.
9. Switch off flame and cover for about 3-4minutes.
10. Strain the tea and serve hot.
