This is a recipe found in a Crock-Pot cookbook my stepmother bought when she invested in a slow cooker. It has become a family favorite for us, and is one of my most beloved meals of all time! There are some subtitutions we make in my family for this recipe. In the original recipe, the ground meat is regular hamburger, but we use turkey burger because we just think it tastes better and know it's healthier. We also only use a quarter tablespoon of chili powder as opposed to a half tablespoon, because there are some sensitive stomachs among us. Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef |
1 small onion, chopped |
1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained |
1 (15 ounce) can garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained (aka chickpeas) |
1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained |
1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained |
1 cup tomato sauce |
1 (4 ounce) can mild green chilies |
1/2 tablespoon chili powder |
Directions:
1. 1. Cook ground beef/turkey and onion in medium skillet over medium-high heat, stirring to break up meat until it is no longer pink. Drain; place ground beef/turkey mixture into the Crock-Pot Slow Cooker. 2. 2. Add tomatoes with juice, beans, tomato sauce, chilies and chili powder; mix well. Cover; cook on high for 6-8 hours or until done. |
