If you think cut-out cookies are just for the holidays, think again! The flavor of these cookies is hauntingly good. Ingredients:
1 cup shortening |
2 1/2 cups sugar |
3 eggs, beaten |
1 teaspoon vanilla extract |
4 teaspoons buttermilk |
3 cups all-purpose flour |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
garnish: sanding sugar, small jellybeans |
1/4 cup butter, melted |
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar |
1 teaspoon vanilla extract |
2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened |
1 to 2 t. milk |
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, blend together shortening and sugar. Add remaining ingredients; beat until dough is sticky. Spoon onto wax paper; wrap and refrigerate for several hours to overnight. Roll out dough 1/2-inch thick on a floured surface. Cut out shapes with floured cookie cutters; transfer to greased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes, until edges are golden. Cool before frosting. Frost with Powdered Sugar Frosting. Sprinkle with sugar. Add jellybeans for eyes and mouth. |
