the OTHER sauerbraten stew with pork and gingersnaps. looks yummy. Ingredients:
2 lbs boneless pork, trimmed and cut into 1-1/2-inch cubes |
2 tablespoons vegetable oil |
1 1/2 quarts water |
2 cups ketchup |
1 large onion, chopped |
2 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed |
3 medium carrots, cut into 1/2-in slices |
1 cup green beans (1-inch pieces) |
1 cup shredded cabbage |
2 celery ribs, cut into 1/2-inch slices |
1/4-1/2 teaspoon ground allspice |
1/4 teaspoon pepper |
1 cup crushed gingersnaps (about 16 cookies) |
Directions:
1. In a Dutch oven or soup kettle, brown pork in oil. 2. Add the next 10 ingredients. 3. Cover and simmer for 1-1/2 hours. 4. Stir in gingersnap crumbs; simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes or until stew is thickened and pork is tender. |
