Georgia Peach Short Cake

This is a very tasty and very elegant cake. It's easy but looks and tastes like you slaved for hours. Enjoy. I like to serve this with homemade peach ice cream.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter
2 cups self rising flour
3/4 cup buttermilk
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
3 cups sliced peaches
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
fresh whipping cream
Directions:
1. Cut butter into flour with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal.
2. Add buttermilk and sugar until all dry ingredients are moistened.
3. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface and knead 3 to 4 times.
4. Roll dough to 3/4-inch thickness then cut with a 2-inch biscuit cutter.
5. Place close together on a lightly greased baking sheet.
6. Bake at 425 for 15 minutes.
7. While shortcake is baking place sliced peaches in a bowl and stir in sugar.
8. Split shortcake in half and place peaches on bottom half.
9. Place other half on top and spoon on whipping cream.
