This makes one alligater or two loaves of bread. You can shape this bread into anything before the final rise. Ingredients:
2 packages (1/4 ounce each) active dry yeast |
2 cups warm water (105° to 115°) |
2/3 cup nonfat dry milk powder |
2 tablespoons butter, melted |
2 tablespoons domino® or c&h® granulated pure cane sugar |
1 tablespoon salt |
6 to 7 cups all-purpose flour |
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. 2. Stir in the milk, butter, sugar, salt and 4 cups flour. 3. Beat until smooth. 4. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a stiff dough. 5. Turn out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 10 to 12 minutes. 6. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. 7. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour. 8. Punch down and divide in half (or shape into a gater) 9. Shape into two loaves and place in greased 8-in. x 4-in. 10. loaf pans. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 30 min. 11. Bake at 400° for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown, covering with foil during the last 5 minutes to prevent over browning if necessary. Yield: 2 loaves or 1 alligater |
