I usually take this as a gift when someone invites me to their house for a meal. I'm not sure why, but this bread doesn't keep well, so it needs to be used up in a couple of days. Ingredients:
3 cups self rising flour |
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese |
1/4 cup sugar |
1 tsp garlic powder |
1-1/2 cups milk |
1/4 cup vegetable oil (i use canola oil) |
1 egg |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350F. In a large bowl, combine flour, cheese, sugar and garlic powder. In another bowl, whisk the milk, oil and egg. Stir into dry ingredients until just moistened. Pour into a greased 9 x 5 loaf pan. Bake for 55 to 65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan. 2. *I never keep self rising flour around. Substitute for each cup of self-rising flour: 3. Place 1-1/2 tsp baking powder and 1/2 tsp salt into a measuring cup. Add all purpose flour to measure 1 cup. |
