A delicious heirloom Polish recipe. Ingredients:
cabbage rolls |
1 lb. hamburger |
⅜ to 1/2 cup cooked rice |
1 egg |
i medium head of cabbage |
sauce |
1 tsp. real lemon |
1/4 tsp ground ginger |
1 tsp. paprika |
1/4 tsp. marjoram |
1/4 tsp. dill weed |
3 cans tomato soup |
1 soup can water |
1 tbsp. bacon bits |
2 tbsp. worcestershire sauce |
1/4 cup red wine vinegar |
1 tbsp. dried minced onion |
1 tbsp. minced garlic |
2 tsp. sugar |
1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper seeds |
1/4 tsp. ground cloves |
1/4 tsp. nutmeg |
1 tsp. salt |
Directions:
1. Combine all sauce ingredients in a mixing bowl. 2. Combine hamburger, rice and egg in a mixing bowl then add about ⅓ of the sauce mixture and mix thoroughly. 3. Remove the core from the cabbage and place in a pot of boiling water until the leaves seperate easily. 4. Place approximately 1 to 2 Tbsp. of meat mixture in the center of each leaf and roll, tucking in edges to seal the roll. Place finished rolls in lightly greased baking dish. 5. Pour the remaining sauce mixture over the rolls, cover and bake at 350° for about an hour then uncover long enough to allow the sauce to thicken and lightly brown the tops of the rolls. |
