This is a recipe I got from my children's book, 'Pioneer Recipes', a 'Historic Communiteis' series by-Bobbie Kalman. Here is the description they gave- 'Frybread is a flatbread that was cooked over a fire. The Native Americans introduced it to the settlers. Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups flour |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1 tablespoon butter, melted |
1/2 cup warm milk |
1 pinch salt |
1 pinch sugar |
4 tablespoons vegetable oil |
Directions:
1. 1. To make dough, mix all ingredients except oil in a bowl. Knead. 2. the dough until smooth and divide into four pieces. Shape each piece. 3. into a flat circle. 4. 2. On medium heat, heat oil in a frying pan. Fry dough rounds one at a time until brown and crispy. |
