This recipe comes from my good friend Beth, in Kanasas City. I have not made them yet, but she is a wonderful cook and says these bars are delicious! Ingredients:
1/2 cup peanut butter |
1/3 cup shortening |
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar |
2 eggs |
1 teaspoon vanilla extract |
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/4 cup milk |
2/3 cup creamy peanut butter |
1/2 cup shortening |
3 cups confectioners' sugar |
1/4 cup milk |
1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips |
1 teaspoon shortening |
Directions:
1. In a mixing bowl, cream peanut butter, shortening and brown sugar. 2. Beat in eggs and vanilla. 3. Combine the flour and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture. 4. Add milk; mix well. 5. Transfer to a greased 15 x 10 x 1 baking pan. 6. Bake at 350 for 16-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. (I always bake it for 16 minutes.) 7. Cool. 8. For frosting, in a mixing bowl, cream peanut butter, shortening and confectioners’ sugar. 9. Gradually beat in enough milk to achieve spreading consistency. 10. Frost bars. 11. Melt chocolate chips and shortening; stir until smooth. 12. Drizzle over frosting. 13. Refrigerate. |
