This is the best stuff you'll ever put in your mouth! Some eat it for breakfast with syrup, butter & powdered sugar. Some have it for dinner as a main or a side. You can add things like meat, veggies, seasonings, etc. Read more . Sky is the limit here. A budget friendly warm and satisfying treat that is kind of different and off the beaten path! -Kn0x-
Ingredients:
1 cup plain yellow cornmeal (*not* cornmeal mix!)
3 cups water
1 teaspoon salt
bacon grease for frying (or oil if you prefer---butter will burn)
Directions:
1. Bring water and salt to a rolling boil in medium saucepan.
2. Slowly add cornmeal to pan, stirring constantly.
3. Drop heat to medium, continue stirring until thick and uniform.
4. Pour into a greased, small loaf pan and let cool.
5. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for a few hours.
6. Drain off any accumulated condensation.
7. Heat bacon grease or oil in frying pan.
8. Slice mush into 1/2 inch slices, you may wish to dredge in flour, maybe not-that's up to the cook!
9. Fry on both sides until golden and crispy.
10. Dinner? Salt & pepper well before serving
11. Dessert/Breakfast? Shake powdered sugar over the mush slices, and serve with fruit, whipped cream, syrup or whatever makes your dress fly up!
