Fried Green Tomatoes

A tasty side dish that is usually served in late summer or early fall.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup cornmeal
1/4 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 green tomato, firm, cut into 1/2 inch slices
4 slices bacon
2 tablespoons peanut oil
coarse salt
Directions:
1. Combine cornmeal, sugar and salt.
2. Dip each tomato slice into cornmeal mixture.
3. Fry in hot bacon fat and oil until brown, turning once during cooking. Drain on paper towels.
4. Sprinkle with coarse salt and serve hot.
