From my collection of handwritten recipes 1960's. Ingredients:
1 lb fillets fish |
2 tablespoons oil |
1 tablespoon white wine |
1 tablespoon lemon juice |
1 small onion, sliced thin |
salt and pepper |
1 cup flour |
1 cup milk |
1 beaten egg |
salt and pepper |
Directions:
1. Cut the fish in serving pieces and lay flat in a dish. Mix oil, wine, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Pour over the fish. Lay slices of onion on top of fish. Let soak for 1 hour. Remove fish and drain on paper towels. Make a batter of flour, milk, egg, salt and pepper. Dip fish into batter, covering all sides. Fry in hot fat and drain on paper before serving. Serve with tartar sauce. |
