After a visit to Italy, home gardener Reed Davis had an intense craving for simple, fresh pizza. He also had a lot of homegrown tomatoes. This easy recipe took care of both. He makes his own crust-feel free to use your favorite recipe or store-bought pizza dough, as we have here. Ingredients:
1 package store-bought pizza dough, such as trader joe's, or use homemade dough |
2 or 3 garlic cloves, thinly sliced |
about 1/4 tsp. flaked sea salt |
2 to 3 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil |
10 to 12 small tomatoes, halved or quartered |
6 or 7 basil leaves, torn |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 500° with a pizza stone on the bottom rack. 2. Roll out pizza dough on a floured pizza peel or upside-down large baking sheet. Press garlic slices into surface of dough and season with salt. Slide pizza from peel onto hot pizza stone in oven. 3. Bake pizza until puffed, blistered, and browned, 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from oven, drizzle liberally with oil, and top with tomatoes and basil. Sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt. |
