This French toast is lower in carbs than a traditional version because it has reduced-carb whole wheat bread and is topped with sugar-free syrup instead of powdered sugar. Ingredients:
3 tablespoons fat-free milk |
1 large egg |
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract |
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1/8 teaspoon salt |
2 (1-ounce) slices reduced-carb whole wheat bread (such as arnold) |
1 tablespoon light butter |
2 tablespoons sugar-free maple-flavored syrup |
Directions:
1. Combine first 5 ingredients in a shallow dish, stirring well with a whisk. Add bread to dish; let stand 5 minutes, turning once. 2. Melt butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add bread slices; cook 3 to 4 minutes on each side or until browned and crisp. Serve with sugar-free syrup. 3.
