French Onion Soup Modified From Sandra Lee |

Modified this from a recipe that I saw on Semi-Homemade with Sandra Lee...have lost my notes, very much a guessipe (haven't made since last winter), but, we loved it!! Made it several times, has always been a hit! Read more ! Ingredients:
5 med - large white onions, sliced |
5 med - large yellow onions, sliced |
3 t chopped garlic |
4 t worcestershire sauce |
1 package beefy onion mushroom soup mix |
1 carton beef broth |
1/2 carton chicken broth |
1/2 - 1 c water |
1/2 stick margarine |
seasoned salt |
garlic pepper |
3 t dried parsley |
1 bay leaf |
2 t cornstarch and 1/4 c water if needed to thicken |
nice, large, seasoned croutons (homemade ffrom leftover french or itialian bread are best) |
gruyere cheese |
Directions:
1. Mix all ingredients except cheese, croutons, cornstarch and 1/4 c water in large stovetop pot 2. Bring to Boil 3. Cover, and allow to gently boil 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally 4. Remove lid and simmer, allowing to reduce and thicken 5. (Add beef stock, or seasoning as needed, as cooking time progresses) 6. Allow to simmer until 15 minutes til serving time 7. If needed at this time, mix cornstarch in 1/4 c water and pour into boiling soup 8. Stir constantly until thickened slightly 9. Ladle soup into individual, oven proof bowls 10. Place bowls on baking sheet 11. Add Croutons to each bowl 12. Cover each with a slice or handful of shredded GruyereCheese 13. Broil until cheese is melted |
