~The Keeper of...Three ~ Ingredients:
6 cups flour |
2 tablespoon baking powder |
1/2 cup sugar |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 cup currants |
2 eggs |
1 1/2 cups milk |
1/2 cup treacle or dark karo syrup |
Directions:
1. Mix together the dry ingredients and add the currants. 2. Beat together the eggs,milk and syrup and add to the flour mixture. 3. Mix all ingredients thoroughly. 4. Pour into 2 well greased loaf pans and bake in 350 degree oven for about one and half hours. 5. Cool on a rack. 6. Wrap tightly in foil and keep for (3) days. 7. This is a very old English recipe,originating in the Middlesex area of Southern England it's called a 'keeping bread'...the rule is not to cut the bread for at least (3) days after baking,after which you would slice thin and spread with butter and jam or preserves. 8. For as I see it...It's Okay to be blowing in the wind,it does'nt need to be just a pipe dream...one must measure it thou.. 9.
