My family's traditional tortilla recipe. Ingredients:
4 cups flour |
1 1/2 tsp. salt |
4 tbsp. (heaping) lard or vegetable shortening - lard's traditional |
11/4 to 1 1/2 cups warm water |
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder |
Directions:
1. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Cut in lard; add enough water, kneading dough until soft and smooth in texture. Form into balls about 3” in diameter. 2. Roll out into round flat shaped circles about 1/8” thick and cook on griddle on medium heat, flipping tortilla until both sides are spotted medium brown. |
