History does not tell us its true origin but it is popular in Europe and it comes in different forms , as a cookie, a bar and even in cake form . They are a delicious mixture of toasted nuts and candied fruit that are coated with a sweet sticky mixture of honey and sugar and baked until golden brown and bubbly. Read more . The crowning touch is a layer of melted chocolate. Ingredients:
1/4 c flour , sifted and brown sugar |
75 butter |
2 tbsp walnuts/cashewnuts , flaked almonds , glace cherries , mixed peel - all chopped |
200 g white / dark chocolate , melted |
Directions:
1. Pre heat oven at 180 deg . 2. Line a try with baking paper . 3. Add the nuts , cherries , peel to the flour . 4. Stir well . 5. Melt the butter and sugar over low heat until dissolves . 6. Add them to the flour and mix gently with a wooden spoon until combined . 7. Drop them in the baking tray with few cms apart and slowly press each of them to make a small circle . 8. ( Make sure to leave some space between each , to allow spreading ) 9. Bake 7 mins . Repeat with the rest . 10. Meanwhile , using a flat bladed knife , push the baked ones into neat rounds before allowing them to cool on a wire rack . 11. Dip the underside of the florentines in chocolate melts and using a fork mark wavy lines before it hardens . 12. Leave it to set . 13. You may use either the white or dark or both the chocolate melts . 14. You may decorate the top side too ....... 15. Serve within 24 hrs . |
