This is an old-fashioned honey cake recipe that is time tested. Honey cake is traditionally served for dessert during Rosh Hashannah. This recipe is excellent. 1/2 cup spry |
1 cup sugar |
1 cup honey |
2 eggs |
2-1/2 cups flour |
1 teaspoon ginger |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
1/2 teaspoon allspice |
2 teaspoons baking powder |
1 cup coffee mixed with 1 teaspoon of baking soda |
grated rind & juice of 1 orange |
chopped nuts |
raisins |
Directions:
1. Heat oven to 325 degrees. 2. Sift together 2 1/2 cups flour, 1 tsp. ginger, 1 tsp. cinnamon, 1/2 tsp. allspice, 2 tsps. baking power. 3. Mix together spry, sugar and honey. 4. Then add eggs and mix thoroughly. 5. Add rind. 6. Alternately add dry ingredients and liquids. 7. If you wish, add raisins and nuts. |
