Flemish Carbonade (Beer Meat) |

This is great on a cold day! We always serve this dish with baked potatoes. Ingredients:
2 lbs round steaks |
1 (12 ounce) can beer |
2 tablespoons oleo |
2 medium onions, sliced |
1 teaspoon salt |
1/4 teaspoon pepper |
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme |
2 bay leaves |
4 teaspoons cornstarch |
2 teaspoons powdered sugar |
1/4 teaspoon dried marjoram |
1/2 cup canned beef broth |
Directions:
1. Cut meat into 1 cubes. 2. Melt some fat from meat in skillet, throw rest of fat away. Brown meat on both sides for 15 minutes. Set aside. 3. Cook oleo and onions until golden. 4. Put meat into casserole, then onions. Add seasoning and herbs. Pour in beer, stir, then add cornstarch dissolved in broth, and sugar. 5. Bring to boil, stirring, then pour liquid over meat in casserole. 6. Cover and bake at 300 for 2 hours. |
