I'm posting this to celebrate Germany making the World Cup semifinals. Along with football/soccer, Germans really seem to love apples. Also, you can mix the meat up a bit by using a bit of ground pork in place of some of the beef, or even go a little healthier by using ground turkey, something I've taken to doing quite a bit recently (you'll hardly notice the difference really). Ingredients:
2 lbs ground beef |
1 small onion, minced |
1 cup applesauce |
1 cup breadcrumbs |
1/4 cup ketchup |
2 teaspoons kosher salt |
black pepper, to taste |
4 slices bacon |
cooking spray |
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F Combine all of the ingredients, except the bacon, in a large bowl and mix well. Spray a loaf pan with cooking spray and add the meat mixture. Place the bacon slices on top, and bake for at least 90 minutes. 2. Remove from the oven. Let cool for at least 10 minutes, then slice and serve, making sure everyone gets a little bacon. |
